2008

Franco and Bernardo arrive in the South of France from Brazil and Portugal, where they become friends.

2009

Franco begins culinary school and joins the kitchen at La Chèvre d’Or, one of the finest restaurants on the French Riviera — his first experience in the Michelin-starred world.

Bernardo begins his Hotel and Restaurant Management degree and joins the Hotel Windsor in Nice — an art-centered property where he first experiences the combination of art and hospitality.

2010

Franco moves to Paris to join the kitchen at the 3-Michelin-starred Guy Savoy.

2011

Bernardo moves to Paris to join the five-star Shangri-La Hotel, home to two Michelin-starred L’Abeille and one Michelin-starred Shang Palace.

 

Franco joins Alain Ducasse at the Plaza Athénée, the three-Michelin-starred restaurant.

2012

Franco places second in San Pellegrino’s Best Young Chef in France, competing among 3,000 candidates.

2013

Bernardo joins the 2-Michelin-starred restaurant David Toutain in Paris.

2016

Franco and Bernardo move to the United States, joining Jema in Huntington, New York, as Executive Chef and General Manager, respectively.

The following year, Jema is awarded Best Fine Dining Restaurant in Long Island by Newsday.

2018

In January, Franco and Bernardo begin working on the business plan for FREVO.

In December, they sign the lease for 48 West 8th Street in Greenwich Village and begin a five-month renovation.

2019

In March, Franco and Bernardo invite French artist TOMA-L aka Thomas Labarthe to become FREVO’s first artist in residence. With the restaurant still under renovation, Thomas transforms the future gallery into a temporary atelier, creating the works that would become FREVO’s opening exhibition.

Quentin Vauléon, Best Young Sommelier in France 2017, joins the opening team.

FREVO opens on May 17th with a team of five. Three months later, the New York Times awards FREVO two stars.

2020

FREVO closes in March due to the global pandemic.

Chef Franco is named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Brazil list.

2021

FREVO reopens in February after a year of pandemic closure.

In September, FREVO hosts its first Art Curator Series, featuring curator Destinée Ross-Sutton and an exhibition by American artist Khari Turner.

In December, photographer Richard Corman showcases rare portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat taken in his Great Jones Street studio in the 1980s.

 

Also in December, FREVO welcomes its first chef collaboration dinner with Chef Alberto Landgraf of 2-Michelin-starred Oteque in Rio de Janeiro.

2022

In March, TOMA-L aka Thomas Labarthe returns to New York City for a new sold-out show at FREVO, entitled FACES.

In May, FREVO hosts its second chef collaboration dinner, welcoming Chef Hiroyasu Kawate of 2-Michelin-starred Florilège in Tokyo.

In September, photographer Richard Corman returns to FREVO with never-before-seen portraits of Keith Haring, taken in his Broadway studio in the 1980s, just blocks from FREVO.

Also in September, FREVO announces an exclusive collaboration with Acqua di Parma — Chef Franco Sampogna creates a dessert inspired by their new fragrance collection.

In October, FREVO is awarded its first Michelin Star.

2023

In January, Chef Franco Sampogna is named a semifinalist by the James Beard Foundation for Best Chef New York State.

In April, FREVO hosts its third chef collaboration dinner, welcoming Chef João Rodrigues, former Executive Chef of Michelin-starred Feitoria in Lisbon.

In May, FREVO hosts its first gallery collaboration featuring British artist Jake Wood Evans, curated in partnership with Unit London.

In August, FREVO undergoes its first major interior renovation, led by Rockwell Group and L’Observatoire International.

French painter and sculptor David Djordjevic sets up a temporary atelier in the gallery during the renovation, creating the sold-out show WHERE I BELONG.

In October, FREVO is awarded its second consecutive Michelin Star.

Forbes includes FREVO on its annual All-Star Eateries list in New York City.

In December, TOMA-L aka Thomas Labarthe returns to New York City to unveil his newest book, MALA BESTIA, and present MALA TYPO, a six-piece collection created exclusively for FREVO.

2024

In January, FREVO is included in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Discovery List for the first time.

In April, FREVO opens GLIMMER, its second collaboration with Unit London, showcasing new work by American sculptor and painter Nicolas Holiber.

In September, FREVO receives the Best Organic Wine List in North America award from the World of Fine Wine in London.

FREVO also opens a new exhibition featuring Portuguese installation artist AKACORLEONE.

In November, Chef Franco Sampogna is recognized by The Best Chef Awards among the world’s finest.

Beverage Director Quentin Vauléon places third at the Best Sommelier of France competition.

In December, Forbes awards FREVO four stars on its All-Star Eateries list.

FREVO is awarded its third consecutive Michelin Star.

2025

In February, FREVO opens its second collaboration with curator Destinée Ross-Sutton, featuring WHEN WE BLOOM, a new show by New York City artist David “Mr. Star City” White.

In April, Franco and Bernardo are invited by Bon Appétit Editor-in-Chief Jamila Robinson to discuss six years of FREVO on Food People, Bon Appétit’s podcast series on Spotify.

In June, FREVO receives the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for the first time.

In September, FREVO partners with Silver Art Projects to showcase Bloodlines by Aristotle Forrester, a 2025 Silver Art resident.

In October, Chef Franco Sampogna is recognized with Two Knives by The Best Chef Awards, joining the World Class category.

In November, FREVO is awarded its fourth consecutive Michelin Star.

TOMA-L aka Thomas Labarthe returns to FREVO with a new body of work, entitled Wall Paper Boy.

In December, Forbes awards FREVO four stars on its All-Star Eateries list for the third consecutive year.
